Answer: No. I cannot control your mind. Most people describe their hypnotic experience as "focused attention." At no point in the session do you lose control of your mind. If you do not agree with or do not understand one of my suggestions you will reject it and maintain focus.
Myth 2: Hypnosis is a "Miracle Cure."Answer: Research confirms that when hypnosis is combined with other techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) it quickens "experiential" learning - which is the "OMG" moment in other therapies. Clients can experience improvements in a shorter time however, there is no such thing as a "miracle" hypnosis cure.
Myth 3: Will you suggest that I bark like a dog, or sing top 40 songs from 2001?Answer: The ability to experience hypnosis does not make someone gullible or weak. While in hypnosis you maintain the ability to control your behavior or refuse to respond to my suggestions. Clinical Hypnosis is a serious treatment technique not used to embarrass or entertain.
Myth 4: Is it possible that I may not be able to wake up from hypnosis?Answer: Hypnosis is not sleep, although some clients get so relaxed that they slip-in-and-out of a deep relaxed state. Hypnosis is an experience of "focused attention," and in case of an emergency your conscious mind becomes alert and ready for action.
Myth 5: What happens if I remember something that I didn't expect to remember?Answer: You and I are working on specific goals. Most treatment goals involve learning how to tolerate difficult feelings and conflicts rather than "pushing" them down.
Myth 6: Can Hypnosis help me remember childhood memories?Answer: Hypnosis is not a reliable means of recovering repressed memories but might increase the danger of creating false memories. Sometimes I ask, "How would you know the memory is accurate or maybe something you saw on a late night movie?" Hypnosis cannot be used in court as evidence.
Myth 7: Hypnosis is "Black Magic."Answer: Hypnosis has been used for decades in medicine, dentistry, and the behavioral sciences. It continues to be empirically studied and proven to be an effective technique. I have researched and trained with world-renowned leaders who are experts in the field of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, pain control, ego restructuring, marital and sexual problems.
Myth 8: Can Hypnosis be used in Couple Treatment?Answer: Yes. I have used hypnosis with couples for a variety of issues including emotional regulation, hostility, conflict avoidance, helping couples work past the affair, sexual discomfort and increasing responsiveness.
Myth 9: Can Hypnosis be used with Children?Answer: Absolutely. Children give me plenty of opportunities to help them learn skills such as setting limits, overcoming school phobias, separation anxiety, bladder control, managing anger, learning how to be safe when feelings overwhelm them. Children have natural gifts to move in-and-out of imaginative beliefs better than adults.
"I am a corporate executive who works long hours and stress just comes with the territory. I had been experiencing difficulty not only getting to sleep but it was even more challenging to stay asleep. It seemed that any thought that popped into my mind was enough to get my brain preoccupied and I simply could not get back to sleep. The result was that I was less effective at work in a job where I have to be "on" all the time.
I went to Judith with my problems and she was terrific! Through hypnosis and a recorded script that I use on my ipod, I have seen at least a 75% improvement in my sleep issues. This is a dramatic and somewhat life altering improvement. I am happy to give my highest unqualified recommendation of Judith to anyone seeking help with sleep issues."
"I am thankful everyday that my quest for hypnosis therapy sent me to Judith. The process was made even easier when I learned that she was my workplace EAP and that the paperwork and fees were looked after. Even after the first hypnosis session I could feel my thought processes changing and becoming more positive. She approached my issues with warmth, purpose and the utmost confidentiality.
This security allowed me to open myself to the whole experience and appreciate an emotional balance that I have never before known. I now have the ability to effortlessly put myself into a relaxing state of mind which has proven beneficial in many stressful circumstances. I was searching for an answer to my private challenges and Judith helped me to unlock my own personal power. This feels like a new beginning..."
