Treating People, not Labels
After I graduated in 1989 with a Masters Degree in Social Work, I studied with Dr. Neil Lamper, in Michigan. Early in my work, I asked for his advice. It went something like this:
I said, "She's 42 years old, has post-traumatic stress disorder, a history of manic depression, suicide ideation with a moderate degree of agoraphobia and some oppositional tendencies. What should I do?" Dr. Lamper stared at me, leaned forward with a grin on his face, and said, "I wouldn't give her so many unresolvable labels." That was one of the most inspiring moments that shaped my work: define peoples' problems using resolvable words, and help them recognize that their problems are resolvable. People get stuck in their ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. |
"My healing journey began with Judith and throughout our sessions together, Judith provided me with significant support toward greater self-awareness and self-love, living my life with integrity, and becoming me. I highly recommend Judith as a therapist because of her extensive skill and expertise, thought-provoking questions, and creative ability to make meaningful connections. Thank you Judith!”

"Judith is one of the few professionals I know who uses both heart and head in her work, sometimes together, and sometimes, appropriately, separately. Lucky Clients!"
